Painting Charlotte Harbor at the Punta Gorda Hibiscus Festival

Painting outside is one of the best ways to capture the light. It can also be a challenge. Things are constantly changing, wind may be blowing, storms can appear suddenly. And if I am painting in a busy location, like this festival, I may have lots of people coming by to talk and ask questions. So this day, I had to paint very quickly to get in the look I wanted for the Harbor.

Punta Gorda is a beautiful town surrounded by Charlotte Harbor. Every May, the Charlotte County Historical Society sponsors the Hibiscus Festival in Gilchrist Park. It's a fun weekend of food, music, crafts, artists and Plants! I arrived early Friday and set up my booth near the Harbor. It was a beautiful weekend with lots of artists attending.
